Murtala Ahmed Rufa’i
Dr. Murtala Ahmed Rufa’i teaches peace and conflict at Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto, Nigeria. His research interest includes farmer-herder conflict, the rural economy, rural bandits and cross-border security. He has published over a dozen of articles and chapters in reputable journals and books in this field. Rufa’i, has also attended over a dozen of seminars, workshops and conferences, both nationally and internationally.
Some of his most recent work includes “Northwest Nigeria: Jihadization of Banditry or a 'banditization' of Jihad?!” and “Violence on the loose: Cattle Rustling and Transformation of Rural Banditry in Zamfara State”. He is also the author of the book "I am a Bandit": A Decade-long Research in the Bandits' Den of Zamfara State.
Rufa'i is a field monitor with WANEP and the Early Warning Directorate of the ECOWAS. He has conducted research and written reports for the European Union, the Center for Humanitarian Dialogue and UNDP amongst several others. He is also a Research Fellow with the Center for Democracy and Development in Abuja.
