Vanessa van den Boogaard
Vanessa is a political scientist specializing in the politics of taxation and informal institutions, the political economy of development, and conflict and statebuilding. Her work on informal taxation includes a focus on taxation by non-state armed groups, exploring the dynamics and implications of different modalities of revenue generation by armed actors.
She is a Research Fellow at the International Centre for Tax and Development, where she co-leads the research programme on Informality and Taxation with Max Gallien. She is based at the Munk School of Global Affairs and Public Policy at the University of Toronto.
