Chris Rush
Chris is an independent expert on conflict with a particular focus on armed groups in southeast Asia. He is currently leading the Burma/Myanmar research for the Generating Respect Project which examines whether and how religious leaders influence the behaviour of parties to armed conflicts and whether this can generate greater respect for humanitarian norms. He also recently authored a case study on the Moro Islamic Liberation Front in the Philippines for the From Words to Deeds Project which analyses armed non-state actor Interpretation and practice in respect of international humanitarian and human rights norms
Chris worked for 12 years for Geneva Call, analyzing conflicts and managing and undertaking engagement with armed groups in Asia towards respect for International Humanitarian Law and International Human Rights Law. In this respect, his main focus was on conflicts in Sri Lanka, Burma/Myanmar, Thailand and the Philippines. Prior to Geneva Call, he worked in humanitarian protection for the Danish Refugee Council and the International Rescue Committee and as a refugee advocate in the UK. He holds a BA in Sociology with African and Asian Studies from the University of Sussex and an MA in Refugee Studies from the University of East London.
